15 coastal change pathfinder authorities who will explore new ways of adapting to coastal change have been announced on the Defra website. These include  Hastings and East Sussex.

On the 20 September 2009 our Technical Officer, Tony Hills, raised his concerns with the Environment Agency  regarding  the accumulation of shingle  at the Outfall at Littlestone and the resulting flood risk  for local areas. The situation was promptly remedied at that time.

DOC was given an excellent opportunity to present  its aims and objectives for sea defence policies on the Romney Marsh  directly to the  Parliamentary Under-Secretary Huw Irranca-Davies (  Minister for Marine and Natural Environment) ,  during a ‘Coastal Communities at Risk’ Conference,  held at  the Institute of Civil Engineers,  Westminster on 6 July 2009   [...]

The  Meeting was opened with a  very informative  presentation given by  Deputy Director Sean Furey  from Protect Kent ( formerly known as the Council for the Protection of Rural England) , followed by an excellent presentation  by Clive Older (EA)   which  presented a good opportunity to all those DOC Members  who attended to [...]

Lord Smith of Finsbury, who is the Chairman of the Environment Agency,  visited the Romney Marsh today to inspect the progress on the construction of new and much needed  sea defences  at Dymchurch and the Romney Marsh as a whole. He saw at first hand the new sea wall being built along the beach front [...]

DOC was invited to join the celebrations for the  Quality Coast  Flag Award  2009  recently granted to  Dymchurch in recognition of  its high standard for beach facilities, water quality, cleanliness, car parking facilities  and safe pedestrian access.
