Further Deterioration of Sea Defences
Following the recent high tides our Technical Officer Tony Hills has carried out further inspections on the state of our sea defences in various locations
- Galloways Lookout Tower 22.10.2009
- Flooded Ground behind Lookout Tower at Galloways 22.10.09
- The eroded crest looking south
- Dengemarsh 22.10.2009
- Broomhill - Damaged Outfall Vent Pipes
- MOD Lookout Tower Jury's Gap 22.10.2009
and reports as follows:-
DENGEMARSH
The shingle ridge east of the lookout tower shows signs of further deterioration by recent high tides. It will need careful monitoring and I fully expect that the next south westerly storm will remove what is left. The EA should, as a matter of urgency, restore this defence to avoid leaving this section of the marsh undefended.
GALLOWAYS
Showing the increased erosion around the side of the structure exposing it to further damage. The crest has also been further reduced creating more risk of flooding in the future.
The recently flooded ground behind the Lookout Tower and in front of the Green Wall shows evidence of increased percolation of salt water through the reduced shingle bank.
BROOMHILL

Broomhill - Damaged Outfall Vent Pipes
Previous patch repair on Outfall vent pipe at Jury’s Gut Tidal Basin now missing with shingle entering vent pipe and potentially blocking outfall.
Fresh shingle erosion at MOD Lookout at Jury’s Gap after recent spring tide.
