EA Safety Advice to all beach users during ground investigation works at Broomhill Sands
DOC has received the following safety advice from the Environment Agency concerning the ground investigation works at Broomhill Sands which commenced this week.
“…..There will be a number of risks from the works on the beach. These will include plant tracking across the beach, open excavations during trenching works, and static borehole rigs (see newsletter photo). Small sections of the beach will be closed off while we carry out these works, in order to ensure the safety of the public and we would urge all beach users to stay clear of these.
The majority of our works will be above the high tide level.
Around the spring tides on the 17, 18 and 21st September we will be looking at beach mechanics at the low water mark (to ensure the beach can take the weight of rock when we come to unload during the construction phase). A piece of equipment similar to that in the photograph will be down at the low water mark for an hour or 2 to carry out these tests.
We would advise against kite buggying for the duration of our works but with common sense and vigilance kite surfing shouldn’t be a problem….”
