Improved Shingle Defence vital at the Suttons, Camber
A recent comment, left on our website , has further highlighted the need for continued and improved shingle defences at the Suttons in Camber. Our Technical Officer Tony Hills has carried out a site inspection, took photographs and raised the matter with the Environment Agency. He issued the following statement::-
“The Suttons have special needs when it comes to sea defence. The EA plan to install a new timber groyne field from the east of Central car park to halfway up the caravan park overlapping the planned revetment. It is vital that the groynes are supported by a shingle defence and that the local EA can service the defence to recharge as required.
As this is an eroding beach, the plan is to retain as much material as possible. The EA will need to build a track past the houses above the groynes for access.
The local residents would be wise to record the condition of their properties prior to the EA commencing work in order to avoid the problems recently incurred at Dymchuch .”
