Second Phase of Seawall Work at Dymchurch begins.

Work is about to continue with the second phase of a £60 million seawall at Dymchurch and letters have been sent out to hundreds of residents detailing the works and promising to keep the disruption to a minimum. This final stage of the flood defence scheme from High Knocke to Dymchurch Redoubt is anticipated for completion in 2011. According to the Environment Agency, who is carrying out this work,  family beach areas will not be affected during the summer.

An exhibition. detailing the works and displaying the plans, will open at the Plater Hall (former Library Building) in Dymchurch High Street on Friday, 16 January 2009  (opening hours from noon until 7.00 pm) . The Hall  will then serve as a regular drop-in centre when the main building period starts at the end of February/early March 2009. The final stage of the flood defence scheme is planned to finish during 2011. Preliminary works on site, which will involve setting up of the compounds and machinery is due to start at the end of January 2009.

The Environment Agency has promised to work closely with local residents, traders, Dymchurch PC and Shepway DC to ensure minimum inconvenience to residents and local businesses whilst this essential flood defence work takes place. Access to the amenity beach frontage closest to the town centre  during the summer months has been  guaranteed by the EA  and traffic lights will operate when materials are being delivered to the site. Noise and vibration levels will also be closely monitored.
